In about 8 hours the crème de la crème from Hollywood will be walking the red carpet of the 85th Academy Awards. While some of us are curious about who will take a golden statue home, others; like me, are more interested about one of the fashion highlights of the year: the Academy Awards red carpet show. The only thing on our minds tonight: who will be wearing what?
Fashion designer Roberto Cavalli was reigning the Grammy Awards this year, dressing the likes of Carrie Underwood and Carly Rae Jepsen. Which designer will be ruling the red carpet tonight? I am rooting for one of my favorite fashion designers; Elie Saab.
Elie Saab was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1964 and started sewing as a child, making clothes for family and acquaintances. He later moved to Paris to study fashion but quickly moved back to Beirut a year later to open his own atelier in his hometown. One of his biggest breaks was during the Academy Awards in 2002. Actress and Oscar nominee Halle Berry was dressed in a beautiful gown designed by Elie Saab. She was wearing a bordeaux red gown with a very revealing body; a flower embroidery covering her modesty. I am sure we all remember her emotional Oscar speech when she won her first Academy Award that night and Elie Saabs dress is one we certainly will never forget.
Elie Saab (ES for short), has dressed many famous celebrities and even royalty; Queen Rania of Jordan, Victoria Crown Princess of Sweden, Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Beyonce and Mila Kunis. Mila Kunis wore ES for the Academy Awards in 2011, wearing a soft lilac gown, as shown in the picture below.
Today a red carpet show isn’t complete without Elie Saabs designs. His stunning figure hugging dresses enhance natural curves and his eye for detail is astonishing. The embroidery and fine details are similar to the fine embroidery on Indian bridal gowns and a feast for the eyes. Certain pieces from ES ready to wear collection 2013 show us that we do not have to reveal a lot of skin to be sexy.
I am going to prepare myself for tonights 85th Academy Awards, a.k.a collect my snacks, fashion magazines and settle myself in front of the television, mobile in hand to tweet you the latest red carpet fashion @FashionOriental
