Dubai-based fashion label TALLER MARMO launched their spring summer 2014 collection during the second season of Fashion Forward Dubai last October. The idea behind designers Riccardo Audisio and Yago Goicoechea’s TALLER MARMO is to create a bridge between European elegance and Middle Eastern charm. An idea that makes this brand culturally hybrid and unique!
The Fierce Collection
The inspiration for this collection came from Egyptian-Italian singer Dalida, a singer popular between the fifties and sixties. A talented performer who recorded songs in more than 10 different languages and can be remembered as an iconic songstress and glamorous diva. The designer duo also decided to add a Games of Thrones, fantasy aesthetic to their collection. The result; glamorous songstress meets angelic TV show heroin. Or as the TALLER MARMO designers would like to present it; a collection fit for a modern day Khaleeji (‘from the Gulf’) princess.
Collection review
The spring summer 2014 collection includes signature TALLER MARMO designs. Contemporary European designs with a hint of Middle Eastern modesty and charm. It includes long-length gowns, dresses, maxi-skirts and pant/skirt + top ensembles. The fit of the garments are loose and billowing. The shapes are very 60s style. This collection has a very modest yet sophisticated look. For this collection TALLER MARMO went for shimmering and shining fabrics referring to the glamorous lifestyle of singer Dalida. Fabrics used are silk mikado, duchesse, silk mattelassè and jacquards. The designers used a few different styles of fabric (heavy-yet soft cottons and viscose cady) alongside the shiny and shimmery fabrics to create a contrast and an extra dimension. I quite like the way the designers play with different fabric styles and different textures. The color palette includes a lot of black, white, blue and beige along with high shine fabrics and silver/metallic.
My favourite from this collection is the black-white printed maxi-skirt. One of my fashion icons is Victoria Beckham and I can see Victoria wear this skirt with a pair of high heels and a simple top. I love the play with length at the bottom and the way it is draped. Another favourite is this metallic/silver shimmery gown. It is very glamorous. I can see a fashionista like Nicole Richie rocking a dramatic gown like this. I also adore the bandana/turban styles worn by the models in this shoot to emphasize the Khaleeji princess idea. Another ensemble that caught my eye is a shimmery brown-beige maxi-skirt combined with a top. The top has a cape detail at the back, which reminds me of an Elie Saab design. Overall a very creative collection from a very talented designer duo!
