This May celebrities will be strutting their stuff on the red carpet, dressed to impress in their designer gowns. The annual Costume Institute Gala (Met Ball) is one of the most important nights for the fashion industry. This ball celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the costume institute and is hosted by Vogue. This year I expect a lot of gowns from Lebanese designers like Elie Saab, Reem Acra and Zuhair Murad to take center stage during this social event. Lebanon born designer Zuhair Murad has grown into a famous name in the fashion industry and has dressed many famous celebrities like Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Lopez, Blake Lively and Taylor Swift. His career in design started out as a hobby at an early age. Murad decided to study fashion in Paris and opened his first atelier in Beirut in 1997. Soon after his career in fashion flourished and lately he has been dressing many famous faces at all the important entertainment and fashion events in show business. Zuhair Murad still has plans to expand his fashion line, he wants to add beauty products, perfumes and lingerie to his designer brand.
Zuhair is one of my favorite designers. The gowns he makes are breathtaking and a lot of attention has been put into the fine and intricate details. I love his use of lace, and sheer fabric combined with carefully placed embroidery. It is revealing and daring but in a stylish and glamorous way. His use of deep colors like; red, deep blue, heavy gold and silver makes the long length gowns look very luxurious. The silhouettes are very chique, almost regal; Grecian Goddess meets Egyptian empress meets modern day diva. I love how an edgy actress like Kristen Stewart can look sophisticated and ladylike yet she maintains her own character and person when she is wearing a Zuhair Murad design. Murad has also designed several costumes for Jennifer Lopez’s tour, the multi talented diva looks show stopping on stage. In 2010 Jennifer Lopez wore a Zuhair Murad gown to the Met Ball. Take a look at the gallery and let us know who you would love to see wearing Zuhair Murad during this years Met Ball.
