After a successful first edition in April 2013, Fashion Forward Dubai will be back for a second season this October. The second season takes place from the 15th of October until the 18th and includes talented and established designers from the Dubai region. We are glad to see familiar faces from season 1 amongst the lineup, like Dina JSR, Amato Haute Couture and Amira Haroon. New faces include Omani fashion label Endemage and one of the brands we featured at the very beginning of The Fashion Orientalist, Taller Marmo. One of my favorites from Fashion Forward Dubai season 1 was Amira Haroon, her fall/winter 2013 collection caught my eye and she has been on my favorites list since then.
Amira Haroon
Dubai based designer Amira Haroon launched her ready-to-wear label in 2009. Amira has Pakistani roots, but has spend most of her life in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Her time spend in the fashion capital of France, Paris has inspired Amira the most on an artistic level. The style of her label is a mixture of both Eastern and Western influences. Amira stays true to her culture by developing luxe fabrics, laces and detailed hand embellishments using age-old craftsmanship from the region.
Her luxurious ready-to-wear designs are best suitable for young and fashion forward women who like to stand out from the crowd.
FW 2013 Collection: Love for Lace
What attracted me to Amira’s fall/winter 2013 collection is her use of different types of lace. I fell in love with the floral lace incorporated throughout this collection. Amira experimented with different types of lace to create a multi-dimensional look, using venetian, guipure and chantilly lace combined with other luxurious fabrics to create an artistic design. The entire look of the collection and the shoot is gothic chic, the designs have a dark, gothic edge, combining bright whites and neutral tones with deep reds, grey and black. I love the short-midi length dresses, they are very wearable and easy to combine with a jacket or blazer for an evening out. The floral touch makes the designs very feminine, while the luxurious fabrics and intricate lace designs create a sophisticated look.
My favorite looks from this collection: the shiny beige/silver midi dress is stunning, I love the combination of different laces, the black detail at the bottom, the figure hugging fit and the see through lace sleeves. Another favorite is the see through, white lace top with black belted detail combined with a metallic black skirt. The skirt has a sexy split and gives the look some edge while the feminine lace top softens the entire look and makes it very wearable.
We can’t wait to see Amira Haroon’s new collection during Fashion Forward in October, make sure to save the date for the 18th of October!
