I’ve written a guest feature for Haute Arabia, which is the world’s premiere online luxury fashion destination for conservative & modest fashion inspired by Arabia. I am very excited that they have asked me to write a piece!

Summer has come to an end and fall has officially taken over. The change of weather, for many of us, means a change of wardrobe. We say goodbye to the bright prints and vibrant florals and exchange them for a more somber and plain look. I have browsed the runway fall looks of 2013 for some fashion inspiration. Just because the skies turn grey does not mean your wardrobe should lack color. This fall it is all about beautiful jewel tones and deep colors. Feel inspired by the Elie Saab 2013/14 Autumn/Winter collection by going for emerald greens, dark navy, cherry reds and pale greys and make sure to add in some black and classic whites when it comes to your basics. It is all about making the right combination.
Other trends for fall are military style jackets, dramatic capes, adding some leather to your look, wearing oversized sweaters and knits and adding some masculine items. For evening wear take inspiration from the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2013 runway show where baroque inspired fashion took center stage. Add in some glitter and glamour by opting for items decorated with luxurious embroidery.
Modest looks for fall
The looks I’ve picked for this article are some of my favorite modest looks by designers of Arab or Asian heritage. The first look is a modern black abaya by Mauzan. I’ve chosen this look because I love the belt detail and the sheer fabric from the skirt. It gives it an extra dimension.
I have seen a lot of kaftans appear on the runway lately. Just yesterday Naeem Khan presented some spring kaftans from his new collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. My choice for fall is this stylish and neutral look from Kanzi. I love the simple embellishment around the neck. It is good to opt for some white and neutral tones during fall and winter to shake up the darkness.
The third look is from Endemage. This beautiful blue maxi-skirt can easily be combined with a plain long sleeved top and a long, statement necklace. I love a twenties style, gold necklace with tassels, for example. Add a bold, dark lip color to this look and you are a show stopper! Beautiful lip colors for fall are ‘rouge noir’ by Chanel or Clinique’s ‘chubby stick intense’ color ‘grandest grape’.
A look I thought would be very suitable for work is this casual chic look from Ayesha Depala. I love the jacket/blazer which really brightens up the entire look. Combining heeled pumps to a baggy, harem style pant makes your comfy look more classy. I personally enjoy playing around with styles like these.
The final look is one perfect for a formal evening out. This is one of my favorite modest looks by Kanzi. I love the maroon color and the embellishments on the shoulders that add a little sparkle. This silhouette is very conservative, yet draped in a way that makes it look extremely feminine and sophisticated.
As you can see there are so many ways to create fashionable and modest looks, simply by looking at the fall trends of 2013 from the runway. Mix and match, add in some beautiful jewellery items and accessories and your good to go!
