This is part two of our personal style shoot, which was put together to celebrate the first anniversary of The Fashion Orientalist. For this photo shoot I worked together with a couple of talented people. I got in touch with photographer Roeland Topée, make-up artist Raisa (owner of Almira’s Beautique), ‘Duivenvoorde Castle’ and designer Shweta Wahi. The idea behind the shoot was to create East meets West looks, which resulted in two different looks.
This second look is quite a daring one due to the popping, pink color of the kaftan. This is a kaftan gown by Dubai-based designer Shweta Wahi. Shweta used heavy, Indian-style embroidery to embellish this Middle Eastern-style kaftan. I adore the heavy beading around the collar and the gold threadwork embroidery around the sleeves and at the sides of the gown. The batwing sleeves give it a glamorous diva touch. I added in another Indian detail by wearing a silver forehead jewel in the shape of a flower and decided against wearing any other type of jewellery. With a look this bold and bright you shouldn’t go all out when it comes to accessories. I wore my hair down, as I wanted to create a fierce, desert princess type of look. My make-up artist Raisa used a soft nude/pink lipstick shade from MAC ‘Cremesheen Fanfare’ for my lips and used pink/purple shades for my eyes to compliment the sugary-sweet color of the gown.
