Whenever the song ‘Single Ladies’ from Beyonce starts playing at a party, all of those in a relationship start dancing along enthusiastically while the actual single ladies stay seated. It is rather strange don’t you think? While those in a relationship shake their tail feather to Beyonce, the real single ladies are hitting the dating scene. To some an extremely exciting experience, to others (like me) it is a lot like job interviews. It is all about ‘first impressions’. Don’t worry, I won’t bore you with dating advice. Today is all about putting together a perfect outfit for a first date.
While your body might look best in a figure hugging bandage dress, you don’t really want to sit at a restaurant wrapped up tight like a sausage, gasping for air. First date outfits are all about comfort. Discomfort affects your confidence, sex appeal and body language. Another important thing to remember is that you don’t want to send the wrong message to your date by dressing up in a promiscuous outfit suitable for a night out clubbing. Assuming you want to find someone to begin a healthy relationship with. Keywords for the perfect dating outfit are: modest, feminine, comfortable, flirty, flattering with a hint of sexy.
I have found a beautiful fall/winter 2013 collection from designer Ayesha Depala to help us get inspired. Her collection is feminine, fashion forward and romantic. The use of neutral colors, soft and hot pinks combined with basic white and black creates a romantic and classic feel. My favorite items from this collection, which are perfect for a first date, are the pant and top ensembles. First on my list is a silky pant combined with an embellished, loose top, both in soft neutral shades. Nothing more comfortable than a pant/top combination. While some think this is masculine, it is all about finding the right combo. This number by Ayesha is flirty and feminine and it has a little shimmer. A long skirt or long dress is another great first date option. As long as the fit is flattering and you are wearing items that flatter your body and show off your best assets. I love this collection by Ayesha, it is modest yet flirty and playful. Get inspired and play with fabrics and colors that suit your skin tone.
A lot of men do not like women who wear a lot of make up, so my last tip is to keep things neutral. If you love your make up, then by all means use it, but don’t over react. Don’t bring out the spider lashes or the glitter pots. Wear comfortable heels and finish your look with a few key jewellery items.
Last but not least, be yourself. Find outfits that suit your personal style.
