Fashion is art. Looking at a piece of art triggers certain emotions and it might even bring up memories. The same goes for fashion. Beautiful garments can take you back in time or fast forward you into the future. It can make you feel inspired or it can make you experience great happiness (which is when shopaholics click the ‘add to cart’ button online or rush to the checkout counter to purchase this must have item). While reviewing the autumn/winter 2013 collection of Arab fashion brand Kanzi, the overall look of the collection reminded me of a fashion inspiration of mine. My late grandmother has been a great inspiration to me when it comes to fashion. A lovely lady, always dressed to the nines, with a great love for fashion. She has hand-crafted many beautiful outfits in her day. When I browsed Kanzi’s latest collection I noticed the model resembled my late grandmother in her younger years. I remember the black and white images I have of her modeling: the perfectly coiffed hair, the bold lip color, the luxurious set of jewels and the feminine and modest fashion looks from back in the day. Timeless elegance!

The Fashion Orientalist Favorites: I am a big fan of vibrant colors like maroons and fuchsia pinks, which is why I am instantly attracted to the maroon gowns. The second look with the glimmering detail on the shoulders is my top favorite. What a stunning gown! I love the way the fabric is draped and falls perfectly around the body. I like the black look with the velvet bolero, decorated with intricate Baroque style embroidery. The kaftan and abaya looks are very clean and simple, the luxurious fabrics along with a subtle detail of embroidery give it a glamorous upgrade.
