Valentine’s day. The day you look at life through rose-tinted glasses. Butterflies fluttering in your stomach every time you lock eyes with your crush or beau. Love is in the air and heart shaped items hit the shelves. You either love or hate Valentine’s day. Businesses take advantage of this holiday by repackaging their products to fit the needs of those in love. Although I love the different shades of red and pink, I have always disliked Valentine’s day. I remember those dreadful high school days…popular girls got showered with gifts and letters from secret admirers. I would tell everyone I hated Valentine’s day, but a part of me would fantasize about secret admirers and boxes of heart-shaped praline chocolates. The hopeless romantic in me decided to dedicate this post to Valentine’s day. Today I will be testing some pretty Valentine’s day-proof lipsticks from MAC Cosmetics. Dress to impress for that special someone and finish your look with loveable lips!
Passionate red – MAC Cosmetics Russian Red
Whenever I visit the MAC section at my favorite department store I can’t help but spend 15 to 30 minutes testing out lipsticks. There are so many different shades, it is hard to pick one. Russian Red is a MAC classic. A daring red shade that gives you instant sex appeal. This lip color is too matte for my taste, I like a lipstick to have a crème like shine. It is a cold and edgy shade of red, which means that your skin turns slightly paler when you wear this shade. If you prefer warmer shades of red you shouldn’t go for this one.
Sweetheart pink – MAC Cosmetics Girl about Town
Fierce pink is what I would like to call this shade. It isn’t a matte color, it has a balmy shine to it. As much as I love a classic, Hollywood glamour, red lipstick, I have to admit I am a sucker for pink lipsticks. Either you go for pastel pink, candy pink, fuchsia pink or cotton-candy pink it looks good on any type of skin color. It does not have the harshness that red lipsticks have. I think this is a daring shade of pink, for the fierce ladies among us.
Romantic pink – MAC Cosmetics Cremesheen Fanfare
Cremesheen Fanfare is one of my favorite MAC lipstick colors. Simply because it is a nude color with a hint of pink in it. It is shiny like a lipgloss, but it is not sticky like a lipgloss. It also makes my skin look as if I have been bronzed by the sun while I haven’t seen much sun for the past half year or so (European weather). When I think about classic romance, I think about soft pink shades. Innocent, delicate, cute and flirty. If that is the look you are going for opt for soft shades of pink or peachy/pink nudes.
I wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day next week. Express love to your loved ones or express your love for chocolate by indulging in a box of praline chocolates…
