From runway to red-carpet – The hottest runway looks hit the red carpet every year during the Oscars and last night was no exception. My favorite of the night is a modest look worn by Camila Alves. She wore a pale pink Gabriela Cadena gown. Actress and fashion it-girl Lupita Nyong’o was a vision in a flowy, pale blue Prada gown. Angelina Jolie opted for true Hollywood glamour in a metallic Elie Saab design and Sandra Bullock went for a classy, dark blue Alexander McQueen gown. Young Hollywood actress Nikki Reed wore a Naeem Khan black and coral-rose embroidered kaftan to one of the after-parties. A daring look that made her stand out from the crowd. Now that the Oscars are behind us, there are still several fashion events left on the spring fashion calendar to look out for. One event to watch is Lakmé Fashion Week – Summer Resort 2014 which kicks off on the 11th of March with a show by the king of Indian couture; Manish Malhotra. In April Fashion Forward Dubai reaches its third season and once again promising and talented designers from the region will be showcasing their latest collections. I can’t wait to review all the designs!
Malini Ramani SS14
A collection that caught my interest during the last edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week last October was the Spring-Summer 2014 collection by Malini Ramani. This collection named ‘wanderlust wonderland’ speaks for itself; clothes created for a woman with wanderlust, a globe trotter on a journey to discover different countries and cultures. Indian designer Malini Ramani has an interesting CV that includes her opening her own nightclub, playing a role in a soap opera and opening her own lifestyle store in Goa, India. For the latter she travels around the world to collect interesting products, artifacts and unique objects for the home and garden. Her professional journey has really inspired her fashion designs. Her collection ‘wanderlust wonderland’ includes different looks, from shimmery and sexy cocktail dresses to exotic resort-wear items like kaftans. This collection is bold, creative and slightly kitschy, think Egyptian Cleopatra meets Aztec empress. The color palette includes black, gold and vibrant orange/reds. I really love the mosaic style, mirror-work used to decorate the kaftans, wraps and cloaks. This collection is perfect for a resort holiday; you can rock a black, swimsuit and sexy see-through mirror-work cloak poolside and hit a fancy nightclub wearing a sparkly galaxy disco playsuit to dance the night away in. Favorite pieces from this collection are the Zulu necklace top combined with an Aztec gypsy skirt, the pomegranate wrap dress and mermaid drape. I am a big fan of gypsy skirts, when sightseeing on holiday a gypsy skirt is a must-have! The mermaid drape is very sexy and the jersey fabric looks very comfortable. The wrap dress is a fun piece to wear in the evening at a beach dinner, it is sophisticated and modest.
Malini Ramani created a collection that is young, edgy and made for women who like to live it up, party and travel the globe!
