Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week also known as New York Fashion Week is taking place as we speak, showcasing America’s finest designers on the runway. My favorites up till now are Monique Lhuillier, Zac Posen, Carolina Herrera and Reem Acra. I am also eagerly awaiting the shows of Naeem Khan and Bibhu Mohapatra. These spring 2014 designs are making me long for spring, but as I look outside my window autumn is happening. My street is flooding from all the rain that is pouring from the fluffy grey clouds. The thing I do love about autumn are the autumn/winter collections and the idea of Christmas being around the corner, which means I need to buy a new dress! I wouldn’t say I am a full on fashionista, otherwise I would have been a personal style blogger. I am someone who wears what she likes, I love fashion and trends but have my own style and whether my outfit is in or out of fashion…it does not bother me, as long as I look fabulous! I do have a great love for high end/luxury designer brands and own a large collection of dresses. Dresses, gowns, ball gowns, prom dresses, Indian dresses, abaya gowns, if I had the money I’d have a separate walk in closet just for all my dresses. I am one of those ultra feminine types who purchases a new dress for special occasions like my birthday, Christmas, a special party I’m invited to…a fancy dinner…
Which brings me to the Fall/Winter 2013-2014 collection of Dina Jsr. An extremely talented designer that first caught my eye during Fashion Forward Dubai. Dina’s fashion journey is an interesting one. Dina was brought up in Saudi Arabia and is of Lebanese origin. During her time studying in London Dina develops a passion for architecture. She ends up choosing for a career in jewellery design and enrolls in different courses to perfect her skills. After many years abroad she moves to Lebanon and starts working for her father at an architecture and interior design company. It is in Lebanon where she takes up courses in fashion and starts an internship at Rabih Kayrouz. The architecture of clothing becomes her primary focus. Soon after Dina establishes her first collection and the rest is history.
Her love for architecture and art is clearly visible from her designs. It is no surprise that architecture has inspired Dina Jsr for this collection. She experiments with different silhouettes, cuts and draping techniques. It is almost as if she is an architect and her gowns and evening dresses are buildings, she plays with geometric shapes and the composition of the different elements. I like someone who pushes the boundaries of fashion and experiments by being artistic and creative like Dina Jsr. The colors used are simply stunning and vibrant. The use of different fabrics gives an extra dimension to the designs, the sheer, see through sections give it a sexy twist. From long length sophisticated gowns to shorter cocktail dresses, each design celebrates the curves of the female body. The gowns are perfectly fitted and beautifully finished, high quality designs. All the items featured in the gallery are designs I would love to wear, which is why I am not even going to give you one favorite, I really can not choose! I am adding Dina Jsr to my list of favorite designers, are you?
