Season two of Fashion Forward Dubai kicked off last Tuesday. FF Dubai brings the crème de la crème of the region’s fashion industry together in one venue to present their seasonal collections to the public. Yesterday designer Dina Jsr showcased her spring-summer 2014 collection named ‘Crystal Waters’.
Dina Jsr gets the inspiration for her designs from architecture, this time she felt inspired by the organic looking One Water Pavilion, a building in South Korea designed by Soma architecture. The collection flirts with aquatic elements for more fluidity and on the other hand takes on the colors of dawn. The color palette is soft and easy on the eyes with faded blue, tender mauve, diluted pink, olive greens and white/silver shades. The designs are very feminine, almost romantic due to the soft colors and flowing fabrics. The collection consists of dressy, evening wear. A combination of luxurious long-length gowns and fashionable short dresses, baby doll style or with dramatic ball-skirts. Although it is a prêt a porter collection, it has a haute couture feel due to the luxurious fabrics, dramatic draping techniques and embroidery (crystal) detailing. I love the effects and dimensions Dina Jsr creates by playing with different fabrics and draping the fabric to recreate the flow of water. The long-length gowns are almost fairytale like, with dramatic skirts and fabric imitating the water flow of a cascading waterfall.
I’ve selected a few favorites of this collection for the gallery. The long, white gown with fuller skirt and simple rectangle details on the chest reminds me of a Grecian style gown, very simple yet powerful. I am in love with the black and white short dress, with peacock feather details, a definite show stopper! The olive green, short dress with gold belt detail is very fierce. I love that this collection has a touch of gold, whether it is a belt detail or Dina Jsr’s collection of jewellery that contains several chunky, gold items. The last two long-length gowns are super romantic; the soft colors, the flowing fabrics, the feminine silhouette…I feel enchanted by the beauty of these gowns. I also love the lace and shimmery detail on the soft, pink gown. Dina Jsr sculpts her designs with a lot of care, her focus on detailing, layering and draping shows true craftsmanship. Enchantingly beautiful!
I hope you are as enchanted by this collection as I am, let us know your favorite item of this collection!
