Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra opened FDCI India Couture Week 2016 (20- 24th of July) with an extravagant runway show. The showcase of his couture collection ‘The Persian Story’ came to a close with Bollywood actors Fawad Khan and Deepika Padukone as showstoppers. The Persian Story revolves around the marriage between craftsmanship and heritage, referring to India’s history and Indo-Persian culture. Manish Malhotra was inspired by Persian royalty, flora & fauna and architecture.
The show was truly breath taking: beautiful bridal gowns in maroon, emerald green and azure blue made from luxurious fabrics including sheer elements and velvet. The heavily embroidered lehenga (skirt and blouse) ensembles sans dupatta (scarf) are my favorite. A traditional silhouette re-imagined. Lehenga skirts with Persian inspired motifs/embroidery combined with embellished tops. The sparkly tops are slightly revealing and sexy, a very modern look for the confident, fashion forward bride.
I would like to say that the showstopper look worn by actress Deepika Padukone was my favorite of the night, but I feel the style of the top doesn’t suit her body type. I can however say this collection includes several masterpieces. You can admire a few of them in the gallery. Let me know which look is your fave!
