Lebanese designer Hussein Bazaza released his Fall Winter 2016-17 collection last March/April during Fashion Forward Dubai. Bazaza is a name to look out for whenever Fashion Forward Dubai reveals their designer list for the runway shows. An immensely talented designer who isn’t afraid to experiment with different techniques, silhouettes and fabrics.
His Fall Winter 2016-17 collection is one of my favorites of 2016 (until now) with a beautiful color palette featuring; metallic blue, bronze combined with black, red, yellow and green. For this collection Bazaza was inspired by alchemy, medieval chemical science and philosophy.
The (background) story behind this collection ‘Sophia the Alchemist’ focuses on Princess Sophia (the alchemist), who lived in the medieval ages and found the desirable formula for the elixir of life, hidden in a red apple which she kept with her at all times. She became immortal and lived through several ages, hiding both her everlasting youth and the secret to her formula. The message; by faithfully believing in something and feeling fulfilled inside, anything can be possible, youth, happiness and peace!
The fabrics used for this collection are cashmere, a mix of metallic fabrics, chiffon, geometric pattern lace and first time introduced pleats. The key motifs of the collection come from alchemists’ archives of studies, geometric symbols, drawings and equations. Bazaza tells us a story with different embroideries and prints.
It’s a très chic collection, very sophisticated with at the same time a playful, girly side to it as it features embroidered stars, butterflies and even unicorns!
My five favourite looks from this collection are featured in the gallery. The mid-length skirts are must haves! The showstopper is a beautiful top and pants-skirt ensemble, the colors are stunning as are the fine lace details and shoulder revealing – golden top.
Which look is your favorite?
