The countdown to Premia India Runway Week, New Delhi has begun. The four day event kicks off on the 29th of august and will be held at the Mapple Exotica Hotel in the fashion capital of India: Delhi.
The Fashion Orientalist will feature all the must see designers who will be showing their collections during IRW and we will keep you up to date with the latest news surrounding this event. The IRW will feature tomorrow’s designers today, which means that it is important for us fashion enthusiasts to keep our eyes open. India’s next top fashion designer might be amongst the selection of designers present at IRW!
So without further ado we present to you the first four designers of our Premia India Runway Report series. The designers aren’t all newcomers to the fashion scene, some have just entered the fashion industry and others have been around for a longer while. One of our favorite Indian designers Rajdeep Ranawat will be opening the show on the 30th of august.
Rajdeep Ranawat: Rajdeep Ranawat is a man who does not need an introduction, his show is a must see! His ‘Santorini’ collection was a great success at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion week spring/summer 2013 and his latest bridal collection is a resort wedding must have. Rajdeep draws his inspiration from nature, the flora and fauna and global landscapes. His collections are colorful, exotic, creative and contemporary. His ‘traditional’ Indian gowns are like no other, I am not even sure I can call them traditional, as they are a modern take on Indian clothing styles.

Aks Jewels by Alka Kumar: Aks Jewels welcomes us to a world of luxury. Alka Kumar is passionate about jewellery design and creates beautiful pieces for her clientele. Aks Jewels are made from high quality materials like, rubies, emeralds, diamonds, sapphires and more. The designs are both traditional and contemporary, using different techniques of craftsmanship to produce the designs.
A Fashion Orientalist favorite: Animal bracelets are a must have item these days and the Peacock bracelet by Aks Jewels is simply stunning!

Deepa Arora: Deepa Arora has a keen interest in Sufism (Islamic mysticism, a dimension of Islam) and spirituality. This inspired her to launch her ‘Faquire, Sufi Music Club’ a place where fashion and music come together. Her ‘Faquire’ designs are modest and traditional with fine detailing/embroidery. A very regal collection. I like her Salwaar Kameez and Anarkali designs, especially the crisp white designs with gold borders and gold and silver embroidery. A must see for those who love modest and feminine designs!
RSVP by Roli & Saurabh: RSVP is a design studio launched by designer duo Roli and Saurabh. Both are graduates from the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology, India and have been designing clothing for women both locally and internationally before joining forces for their RSVP line. They draw their inspiration from art, architecture and textiles and embroidery from across the globe. Their designs are a combination of fashion forward traditional Indian designs and western, contemporary designs influenced by Indian culture. Their designs are aimed at a young audience, designing luxurious and sporty outfits for the day and glamorous and sexy ensembles for the evening.
I personally love their use of color, the dynamic prints and western silhouettes, some of the designs are very young and experimental, while the traditional gowns have a modern and global feel to them.
