Indian designer Siddartha Tytler is one of my favorite designers from Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLIFW) A/W 2013. There was one dress in particular that caught my attention. A blue/metallic, short prom dress hit the runway and I was hooked. His autumn/winter 2013 collection named ‘Queen of the Damned’ is very dark and edgy yet glamorous. With a few sequined dresses, a lot of black and blue and a rare studded ensemble as a closing piece, it really was a collection that stood out from the rest. This collection would have been perfect for The Costume Institute Gala, Met Gala 2013 that took place yesterday where they paid tribute to the punk era. Siddartha Tytler is a very versatile designer. Lately I have noticed a lot of designers tend to stick with what they know and present similar pieces collection after collection. A browse through Siddartha Tytler’s collections gives you a good idea of his versatility and creativity. Tytler designs Indo-Western, Western and Indian wear for both women and men. There is something for everyone, from traditional Indian (bridal) gowns to bright and bold printed summer wear and dark and edgy winter designs. Tytler plays with the different seasons and different fabrics and dares to step out of his comfort zone to explore different styles. He excels in surface ornamentation, appliquéing, thread work and crystal application. His one of a kind designs contain a fair amount of bling and fine detailing. Siddartha has an impressive resume. After he obtained a degree in fashion, Siddhartha held his first fashion show in New Delhi in 2002. After this his career took off and Siddartha Tytler grew into a big name in the Indian fashion industry. He supplies to high fashion stores in India, America and the Middle East. His first international fashion show was in 2006 in Dubai. He is a regular at Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) and WLIFW where he showcases his seasonal collections. Tytler has dressed many celebrities and socialites from India and abroad like; Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Lindsay Lohan and The Big Bang Theory (TV show) actor Kunal Nayyar. Siddartha Tyler really is a designer to look out for during the Indian fashion weeks. I recommend a visit to his website: siddarthatytler.com.
