At first I thought Krikor Jabotian’s fall winter 2014-15 collection ‘Amal’ was inspired by the beautiful Amal Alamuddin, also known as mrs. Clooney. Amal is a Lebanese-British lawyer, activist and author who stole the heart of actor George Clooney, a former womanizer who once said he would never marry again after his first marriage failed. It turned out Krikor Jabotian‘s collection had little to do with Amal and George but is all about ‘hope’ which is what the Arabic word ‘Amal’ means in English. Krikor used a single line to describe this collection:
The hope we secretly carry is the most sincere definition of who we are.
Beautiful…but let us return to the story of George and the always fashionable Amal once more. Maybe the hope George secretly carried for years was to find his soul mate a.k.a Amal? I know, I know…I am getting carried away! I am a sucker for fairytale like romances and they are a beautiful couple.
All you really need to know about this collection is that it is stunning! Haute couture is Krikor Jabotian’s specialty and this collection has modern brides jumping for joy. It includes floor length gowns and dresses in soft coral shades and white with voluminous skirts, adorned with floral and coral-like details, some finished with shimmering sequins. Luxurious fabrics were used, including exquisite lace elements and silky materials.
This collection oozes romance. Elegant designs with innovative silhouettes. Jabotian’s signature style skirt is short at the front and long at the back and several designs include a train/cape element. It looks theatrical! I feel Krikor is making a statement with these gowns, showing us that we should move away from the classic wedding gown silhouettes and embrace innovative, contemporary styles. The wedding gowns of the future!
I have featured five of my favorite designs from this collection. I usually name my top favorite, but really can’t chose which one I like best, they are all beautiful. Can you pick a favorite?
