Last weekend Omar Mansoor showcased his spring/summer 2017 ready-to-wear collection at London Fashion Week. ‘Royae Shahdokht’ translates to ‘dreams of a princess’ and is a collection inspired by the Faravahar, an ancient Persian symbol with Zoroastrian (one of the world’s oldest religions) roots. Nowadays it is a national symbol that represents both the modern and ancient Iranian State. The winged discs of this symbol are usually blue in colour. Navy blue is also the colour of choice for this collection.
Mansoor not only draws inspiration from his own heritage but also European Art and traditions. He combines the old with the new by using both vintage and modern fabrics like vintage laces, crepe and chiffons. The collection features both full and short length dresses. The pieces are feminine and very elegant. The sheer, lace elements give it a delicate, romantic touch.
Omar Mansoor – Profile
Omar Mansoor was born in Pakistan to a textile family. He spend his younger years learning the tricks of the textile trade under the watchful eyes of his elders. He then moved to London to study fashion. Omar’s signature style is the unity of the knowledge he gained from his family’s textile business with the skills he learned at fashion college in London.
Omar launched his eponymous label in 2008. His designs are worn by British actresses, international royalty and European aristocracy at various red carpets including The Oscars and Cannes and have appeared in prestigious publications including Vogue magazine.
Omar Mansoor is also widely credited with re-introducing the fusion clothing into modern fashion. ‘Royae Shahdokht’ is his 12th collection at London Fashion Week.
I have added my favorite designs from his SS17 collection to the gallery. Let me know which you like best!
