Namrata Joshipura launched her autumn/winter 2014 collection during the latest season of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. Namrata was the grand finale: the show kicked off with dancing aliens and laser lights…the ramp lit up with blue, neon lights resembling the décor of an old school sci-fi computer game. Namrata’s collection expresses her love for science fiction and artificial intelligence. ‘ElecTRON’ is a collection inspired by the sci-fi movie Tron. Cyber punk models walked the runway, a strong army of warriors, some wearing Mohawk style headgear resembling the headgear of Tibetan monks. All models wore make-up looks by MAC cosmetics, combined with ear jewellery in the shape of wings/flowers and a lip detail that resembles a lip piercing…very punk rock! Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut also made an appearance wearing a long, strapless gown decorated with gold/metallic embellishments. Namrata Joshipura is known for her innovative creations designed for ‘complex, involved and dynamic women’. This is an interesting way to describe your target audience, but when you look at Namrata’s designs you understand this description. Her designs aren’t for a mainstream crowd. These are looks for women who dare to be different when it comes to fashion, who like to make a statement. This is why her designs are very popular with Bollywood starlets; the type of women who like to have all eyes on them during red carpet shows. Her celebrity clientele includes famous faces likes Kalki Koechlin and bombshell Kareena Kapoor.
Namrata’s AW14 collection includes contemporary silhouettes and sophisticated, sexy styles. Edgy looks in dark, autumn shades including black, blue, red and green combined with shimmery, gold/metallic embellishments or floral details. The looks from this collection are daring and artistic; sexy sheer details, beautiful embellishments, body suits, asymmetric looks and fashion forward silhouettes. Perfect for a woman who likes to express herself, who is fierce and a little eccentric. I love how Namrata plays with different styles of fabric and textures. A good example is this green body suit with floral details combined with a sheer, black gown. A woman like Hollywood’s Rooney Mara would want to wear a look like this to a red carpet show or fancy event. It is edgy, daring and very feminine. The heavy gold, shimmery/shiny gown is a real showstopper and one of my favorites. The low v-neck makes it super sexy!

Indian fashion designer Namrata Joshipura launched her label in 1996. She is a NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) graduate. Her brand is internationally known. She has lived in New York, America for 8 years and returned to New Delhi, India 6 years ago. 2013 was a successful year for Namrata, receiving the ‘designer of the year’ award during the Elle Magazine Style Awards and headlining Lakmé Fashion Week with Bollywood starlet Kareena Kapoor as the showstopper. Namrata continues to headline/participate in major fashion shows in India with her fashion forward designs.
