Today I present another Eid collection as part of our Fashion Orientalist Eid special, which includes designs by three different designers from the Pakistani fashion scene. If you missed part one, check it out here: https://thefashionorientalist.com/2014/07/22/ayesha-somaya-eid-collection-2014/
Pakistani designer Sania Maskatiya is a known name from the Pakistani fashion scene, she has been designing since 2007. Sania launched her brand Sania Maskatiya in 2010 and focuses on haute couture, formal wear, prêt a porter and luxury prêt for women, with a selection of menswear. She showcases her designs in Pakistan and internationally, including countries like India, The Middle East, the USA and UK.
Her Eid collection named ‘Bar-e-Sagheer’ celebrates the craft, patterns and ornaments of the subcontinent. The subcontinent refers to the Indian subcontinent which includes India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives. This theme gives this collection a multi-cultural vibe!
The collection consists of traditional Shalwar Kameez styles with digital prints and hand worked embroideries. The Shalwar Kameez style consists of a long sleeved tunic combined with pants and a scarf accessory. These modest designs look light and comfortable to wear, perfect for a family event. My favorite is a simple white ensemble decorated with floral embroidery. The first layer is made from a sheer fabric, decorated with small, gold flowers made from sequins. The soft pastel pink and green colors give this look a romantic feel. Another design I adore is a heavily embroidered white kameez, with green sleeve detail. The white fabric is decorated with white embroidery which creates texture. I have also included two other designs from this collection. A tunic (kurti) with digital print which looks very modern and trendy and a classic, traditional design with heavy floral embroidery and a red scarf accessory. The latter looks very regal and luxurious and is a great look for a formal event.
