Costume designs for musical performances from popular artists have evolved from simple trousers and tops to haute couture pieces designed by famous fashion designers. Known examples are Zuhair Murad’s contribution to Jennifer Lopez’s world tour, Emilio Pucci designing pieces for Beyonce’s mrs. Carter tour and Givenchy supporting Rihanna’s Diamonds tour with fashionable costumes. Having been to many concerts in the past, I do realize the importance of fashion and custom made costumes. The costumes reflect the inner strength of an artist, is a form of personality expression, emphasizes the musical performance and creates a dramatic visual on stage. Combined with décor, dance, pyrotechnics, live music and audiovisual screens, simple concerts transform to musical spectacles!
The designer brand I am featuring today is a known name with an outstanding celebrity clientele. Amato Haute Couture has dressed celebrities for red carpet events, musical performances, has appeared on Germany’s and America’s Next Top Model and releases new collections seasonally. Celebrity fans include: super-model Heidi Klum, singing sensations Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Shakira, Rita Ora, Nicole Scherzinger, Beyonce and Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra.
Amato, which means ‘beloved’ in Italian, launched in 2002 in Dubai, UAE. Creative director Furne One, originally from the Philippines, and business partner/textile expert Rashid Ali, originally from Pakistan, joined forces to establish their haute couture label. Designer Furne One likes to distinguish himself from other designers and creates out-of-the-box designs that can’t easily be compared to other mainstream designers. Furne describes his vision as followed:
“Meshing cultures, using the region’s rare arts, layering it with eastern and western elements, I create unique pieces for my urbane and globalized clients, reflecting their personal and cultural identities,”
Furne has a passion for couture. The designs are made from luxurious fabrics and rare embellishment techniques are used to decorate the garments. Amato Haute Couture is a brand where fashion meets art, as the designer pushes the boundaries and comes up with eccentric and extravagant pieces. The designs are perfect for musical diva’s like Beyonce, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Furne sees his work as a tribute to the silent strength of women. It is no surprise so many powerful women of pop are attracted to his designs. The garments are amazingly artistic, but also glamorous, with show stealing embellishments and vibrant colors. While other collections show a softer and more romantic side.
Not too long ago I saw an art exhibition from Jean Paul Gaultier which featured a lot of his haute couture work from back in the days. I see tiny similarities between the brands here and there. I think Amato Haute Couture has drawn some inspiration from legendary names like Jean Paul Gaultier. I personally admire designs where art and fashion go hand in hand and love Amato Haute Couture for this very reason. I am very curious to see more from this designer brand and am wondering which famous face they will dress next.
