During Lakmé Fashion Week – Winter/Festive 2014 designer Varun Bahl celebrated a decade in fashion. Delhi based designer Bahl is known for blending the vintage with contemporary and the antique with the new, which results in innovative designs. Varun is passionate about traditional Indian design but also loves contemporary design which he sees as his ‘playground’. Contemporary design gives him the opportunity to combine West with East. His Winter/Festive 2014 collection is all about this blend. The silhouettes of this collection are quintessentially western while the rose motifs and floral embroideries are contemporary Indian styles. The color palette of this collection suits the festive seasons very well, it includes black and silver combined with neutral shades, pale pink and powder blue. The colors represent colors found in both European art and folk Indian crafts which once again shows the West meets East theme of this contemporary collection.
Varun Bahl:
‘’The woman who wears my clothes is a global soul who is sensual yet elegant, understated yet chic. To live in such diverse cultures with confidence she must have a wardrobe that respects and represents her global nature and life’’
Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra walked the ramp for Varun Bahl during the showcase of his collection, which includes jackets, dresses, trousers, skirts and shirts, modern silhouettes with a touch of traditional. What I like most about this collection is that it includes formal pieces you can wear to the office, like black pants and jackets with floral details, while it also includes party pieces like silver jackets, dresses and skirts. I’m also in love with the floral embroidery details. This collection is made for an independent woman who works hard and plays hard! It is hard to pick one favorite from this collection, because I would love to own every piece so I can mix and match. Varun’s collection includes several wardrobe must haves!
