The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) presents Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) took place from the 26th of March until the 30th of March in Delhi last week, showcasing fashion looks for the seasons ahead. Designers from all over India gathered at this event to present their autumn/winter 2014 collections. Today I am sharing the hottest looks from WIFW AW14 with you.
Tarun Tahiliani opened WIFW on Wednesday the 26th. His collection merges contemporary styles with traditional Indian styles. This black/beige ensemble really stood out. I love this Indian punk design, it is dark and edgy. The traditional Indian print/embroidery at the bottom also looks very beautiful. The fabric on top is draped like a sari and the belt detail really gives it a fierce edge.
Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty walked the ramp for Tarun Tahiliani in a colorful ensemble. A stunning celebration of color. It looks like a contemporary version of a traditional Indian lehenga, the off-shoulder crop-top is very sexy!
This design by Shantanu & Nikhil is really chic. The skirt exists of different layers – cut in different lengths, creating great volume. This beautiful, traditional Indian-style gown is a perfect look for a blushing bride.
Sahil Kochhar’s designs received a lot of praise from fashion critics – well deserved! His collection included creative out-of-the-box designs. I really liked this beige/off white contemporary design. The jacket with shimmery embroidery, combined with a scarf looks fierce. This ensemble reveals great craftsmanship. I was clapping away while watching his show, Sahil Kochhar is one to watch!
Anupamaa Dayal catered to a young audience with sugary sweet sari’s in popping colors. The tiny crop-tops make these traditional sari’s look super sexy!
I am a big fan of this blue dress from Pinnacle by Shruti Sancheti. The light flowing fabric, contemporary silhouette, beautiful red rose print and stunning blue color make it a successful creation. Shruti Sancheti designed a beautiful collection of contemporary and traditional Indian looks. Her color palette used for this collection is stunning: reds, blues and purples, real autumn shades.
The last two designs by Pankaj & Nidhi and Mandira Wirk are funky dresses I would love to wear myself. This baby blue, mini dress by Pankaj & Nidhi is a perfect look to wear on the dance floor. The bold, black and white ‘playing cards’ print is very funky and young. Mandira Wirk’s long length gown is sophisticated and sexy. The autumn colors; blue, gold and purple work well together. I love the way the fabric embraces your body, it celebrates the female form. This gown is a must-have!
Rabani & Rakhi impressed me with their chic collection of eveningwear, decorated with beautiful embroidery, in deep autumn colors. The embroidered detail on the pant and gold belt really finish this look. Pia Pauro went all out for her collection, with funky prints and embroidery in bright colors. I adore the bodice of this dress, the embroidered fabric and sheer neckline really make it stand out. Namrata Joshipura closed WIFW on the 30th with her showstopping grand finale. Signature looks, sparkly and shimmery fabrics and feminine silhouettes took center stage. This gold design really stood out, the color and shimmery fabric combined with a sexy low v-neck makes it a real red carpet look.
Malini Ramani’s ethnic chic designs always stand out from the crowd. This floral, black and white print sari looks very modern and young. Zubair Kirmani and Rahul Mishra’s black and white ensembles are contemporary-chic and fierce. The bold prints and sheer fabrics give these looks an extra dimension. Anita Dongre went for gypsy-style creations, bold prints and beautiful color combinations. This chocolate brown skirt combined with the grayish blue color of this long-sleeved top looks wonderful.
