Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), organized by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), is being held from the 9th until the 13th of October in Delhi, India. Designers are presenting their Spring/Summer 2014 collections during this 5 day fashion extravaganza. In part one of my WIFW review I have carefully selected the designs that stood out, this gives you an impression of all the collections that hit the runway during WIFW this week. Because there are so many beautiful designs that caught my attention this season, I am doing a part one and two!
All about BLUE: Zubair Kirmani, Niket & Jainee, Rajdeep Ranawat, Namrata Joshipura
A trend I’ve spotted in the first three days of WIFW is that it is all about blue next Spring/Summer. Different shades of blue have appeared on the runway, which I personally love because it is one of my favorite colors. Most designers have combined blue with creamy whites or icy metallic.
Zubair Kirmani’s collection is super feminine; cute dresses dyed in different colors (blue, red, yellow), with flirty floral prints.
Niket & Jainee’s collection is all about blue, different shades of blue combined with white. I like the combination of traditional Indian silhouettes and contemporary designs for this collection. The blue detailing and embroidered borders (in different shades of blue) give the collection an artistic feel.
Rajdeep Ranawat truly understands the essence of Spring/Summer, the long flowy dresses and caftan style tops are signature Ranawat styles. Bold prints and vibrant colors take center stage. The palazzo pants and Ibiza/resort style accessories give it a hippy chic feel. Look out for the rectangle clutches from this collection, they are a must have! Namrata Joshipura’s collection is one of my favorites. Contemporary designs, creative cuts and silhouettes, some masculine and straight, some form fitted, glamorous and feminine. The combination of different shades of blue and metallic give it an icy feel.
Gold and Cream: Samant Chauhan, Rahul Mishra, Malini Ramani
Samant Chauhan combined gold and creamy white for his collection. It has a very artistic feel, I think he has been inspired by birds or a phoenix as most of the designs include fabrics cut like feathers, actual feathers or bird like embroidery. An interesting theme, including neutral colored gowns which are easy on the eye.
Rahul Mishra brings contemporary western design together with traditional Indian style. Very minimalistic, a lot of cream/white with blue and black prints. Somehow it reminds me of Dutch design, Dutch fabrics, with the blue/white, simple patterns.
Malini Ramani is my top favorite! Warm colors with a touch of gold and beautiful decorations. I spot a Cleopatra theme. Very feminine, figure hugging and fantastic!
Vibrant Colors & Prints: Anupamaa by Anupama Dayal, Nachiket Barve, Pankaj & Nidhi
Anupamaa by Anupama Dayal, a celebration of prints and colors. Floral prints and light fabrics. Fun designs for good times at the beach.
Nachiket Barve went from soft pastel tones to fury red. Dandelion prints hint to a nature theme. I really like this red gown, it is very fierce.
Pankaj & Nidhi’s collection is another favorite, love the bold prints and the color combinations. I like the mid length, fitted dresses, they slim and make you look tall and sophisticated. Very nice collection!
Bringing sexy back: Gauri & Nainika, Malini Ramani, Shivan & Narresh
In the words of Justin Timberlake’s ‘sexy back’, these designs are fierce and sexy. Shivan & Narresh, the kings of Indian luxury swimwear, presented this super sexy cut out dress. I can see a woman like Nicole Scherzinger rock a gown like this. Malini Ramani’s sexy bathing suit combined with a beautiful sheer cape decorated with beautiful mosaic like coral/orange tiles oozes sex appeal. Gauri & Nainika’s designs are very colorful and included some Chanel like – striped designs, dramatic, long gowns and a few sleek dresses with powerful prints. Resort chic!
Make sure you look out for part two and let us know which WIFW SS14 designer collection is your favorite!
