On April 21st couturier Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, better known as HSY, celebrated 24 years in fashion. For this occasion HSY hosted an exclusive solo show in Lahore, Pakistan. This celebratory collection, titled Mohabbat Nama, is an ode to the designers’ home town Lahore and was presented against a historic backdrop: the Haveli of Wajid Ali Shah, a 250 year old traditional mansion/townhouse. Wajid Ali Shah is a historical figure and King who also had a fondness of poetry, dance, architecture and music. Cause for inspiration for HSY’s collection.
70 models who have played a role in HSY’s career, walked the ramp adorned in couture pieces. Each design named after the model wearing it. As Hassan explains: “Each outfit in this show has been created bespoke, for each model and personality in the show; creating harmony between the fashion and the person who wears it; for at HSY a model is not simply someone who wears what is put on them but rather an architect of her own style and elegance.”
The show included supermodels and film & television actors like Mehreen Syed, Natasha Hussain, Simi Pasha, Abdullah Ejaz, Nael Ahmed and HSY’s long-time collaborator and stylist Shahzad Raza, along with his first ever model, his sister Afshan Samee. Pakistani actress and HSY muse Reema Khan walked the runway as his showstopper.
Grandeur and opulence are among the words that pop into my head when reviewing this collection. Every piece fits like a glove, expressing the wearers personality and style. The colour palette is rich and vibrant, from shades of red, blue and green to soft pink and deep purple. Embellished with heavy, intricate embroidery in gold and silver. This collection is breath-taking and shows the true craftsmanship of HSY and his team.
