Last September the Supreme Court of India decriminalized section 377 (Indian Penal Code) regarding homosexuality. The section came into force in 1861. 157 years later homosexuality finally receives legal approval and recognition. The Indian LGBTQ community and its supporters took to the streets to celebrate this great victory.
The Spring Summer 2019 edition of Lotus Make-Up India Fashion Week (LMIFW) took place from October 10-13 in New Delhi. The event organised by The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) closed on the 13th of October with a unique grand finale. What better way to celebrate last months’ #377 victory than with a spectacular ‘Rainbow’ fashion show! 40 designers from accross the country paid tribute. Models walked the LMIFW runway in bold designs, looking fierce and fearless.
Fashion is a statement, a form of self-expression. In India the runway shows have become a platform for artists to express their views, whether it is the message of sustainability, women’s empowerment, honoring traditional craftsmanship and/or inclusivity. Just like the film industry has its role in discussing societal matters, fashion is also breaking boundaries. It is refreshing!
