Designer duo Niket & Jainee presented their spring summer 2014 collection ‘Denim Revisited’ during Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week SS14. Their collection celebrates a fabric that is close to our hearts: denim! We all own a few pairs of denim jeans and wear them on a daily or weekly basis. Denim never goes out of fashion; dyed, ripped, embellished, bleached, studded…you can wear it any way you like. I am a big fan of denim skirts and denim shirts, which are perfect summer looks. Back in the day people saw denim wear as a way of rebellion or a clothing item worn only by those with a profession that requires hard work, like working on the land. Today denim is worn by everyone in the world of any age, profession, income and so on. I personally love to wear a pair of dark denim jeans combined with a formal blazer ‘casual chic’ style. I like to mix casual and formal wear and denim is the perfect fabric to do so. Denim gives you a fearless, rebellious look; you feel edgy, independent and fierce.
This collection by Niket & Jainee is a well-executed denim experiment. Strips of denim fabric were used to decorate crispy, white clothing items. The collection includes tops and skirts decorated with strips of blue denim and even traditional Indian sari’s with borders made out of denim fabrics. The color palette includes denim blue, green and white, which makes it a great look for spring/summer, with blue being a key color trend this season. Designer duo Niket & Jainee are known for their fusion wear. They create feminine ensembles with figure hugging cuts. Provocative and glamorous pieces for the daring kind. Their clothing designs represent modern India; rich heritage and culture combined with contemporary styles from the other countries of the world. The idea of combining denim with Indian clothing styles, like the sari, is genius. These Indo-western, fusion outfits look daring and edgy. My favorite from this collection is a white sari, decorated with blue/green print and denim borders, combined with a sexy crop top in denim blue. The top also includes strips of denim fabric. I would love to wear this ensemble, as I am from mixed culture and enjoy wearing clothes that represent both sides; East and West.
