The 9th edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2019 took place from the 26th until the 29th of September at the Nishat Banquets in Lahore, Pakistan. Organized by the Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC), the event featured bridal collections of 25 designers from across Pakistan.
This year we saw a mix of established & young designers showcasing both contemporary & traditional wedding looks on the runway. Kicking off this years PLBW were Hussain Rehar and Zubia Zainab. A few hours later 4 rising talents presented their designs during a special talent showcase. Designer duo Noreen and Neelam made their PLBW ramp debut two days later. Their collection ‘Mumtaz Mahal’ featured several outstanding designs inspired by the Mughal era.
Noted designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin also known as HSY closed the event on day three with a spectacular grand finale. This year he celebrates 25 years in fashion. The inspiration for his collection ‘Empire’ comes from 4 different empires; the Ottoman Empire, the Mughal Empire, the French Polynesian Empire, and the Russian Empire. What a show it was!
#BeautyMeetsFashion
In collaboration with L’Oréal Paris the event also showed us the bridal hair and make-up trends for 2019-2020. I absolutely adore the updo hairstyles with flower ornaments combined with a bold red lip, shown by The House of Kamiar Rokni and Sonia Azhar.
The less is more make-up trend, focussing on natural beauty is also a bridal trend to watch. A bold & heavy make-up look used to be the way to go in the past but is no longer in fashion. Sometimes you need to let your bridal gown do all the talking colour wise. Simply highlight your best features and you’re ready to go!
Trends
Both Sania Maskatiya, Hussain Rehar and Nickie Nina used velvet fabrics in their designs. Perfectly suited for a fall/winter bride. It looks very elegant and regal!
I also saw a lot of designs where contemporary and traditional styles came together in harmony, creating a hybrid look. The pieces by Zubia Zainab and HSY shown in the gallery are perfect examples of this.
