Profile: Designer Vikram Phadnis started his professional career as a choreographer before rising to fame as a fashion designer. He entered the world of fashion without any formal training as a fashion designer. Vikram, a talented autodidact, is now a leading fashion designer and designs clothing for famous names from Bollywood. Actresses like Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif have worn designs by Vikram Phadnis.
Vikram recently showcased his winter/festive 2014 collection during Lakmé Fashion Week. Actresses Dia Mirza and Bipasha Basu walked the ramp in beautiful bridal gowns during this fashion spectacle. I have added 4 of my favorite looks from this collection in the gallery and lined up the three reasons why I love this collection:
Use of color
What I like most about this collection is the use of color. The color palette for this collection includes colors like: ruby red, black, gold, yellow, earthy neutral tones and shades of blue. Vikram has combined different colors from the color palette for each design, the outcome is creative and daring. I really like the combination of earthy neutral tones like sand combined with shades of blue and the use of mustard yellow with black.
Femininity meets masculinity
A fusion between feminine Indian clothing styles and masculine styles is what makes this collection stand out. This collection includes styles that resemble the masculine Sherwani suit. The Sherwani suit is a coat-like garment worn by men in India. Vikram has spiced this style up for women by making it more feminine and glamorous. Great looks for strong and independent women!
Intricate embroidery
The traditional Indian ensembles from this collection are decorated with intricate embroidery. I love the heavy gold embroidery details on the jacket/coats, skirts and scarves. It gives this collection a regal look. These designs are perfect for a winter bride!
